Remembering 9/11

Evil is real,  but so is courage.

There are countless memorials around the world to recognize the 2,974 victims of September 11, 2001, as well as the heroes. They are places of reflection, remembrance, and honor. I had the pleasure of visiting the Pentagon Memorial this summer, and it was a sobering moment. This tragedy shook our nation to the core, but restored hope. The terrorists behind 9/11 aimed to damage and divide our great nation, however 9/11 did just the opposite. It will forever be a day of unity for American people. Please say a prayer for peace on this 10th Anniversary of September 11, 2001.

Sounds of Britain

Countdown to London: 12 Days

While I'm not much of a music enthusiast, I do love British musicians. While Cheryl Cole has relocated to LA, I can't wait for the tunes of Britain's singers. Seeing Adele, Jessie J, Lily Allen, and/or Mark Ronson live in London would be a dream come true.

Add a Sparkle to Your Step

I have been obsessing over these little gems since the moment I saw them earlier this season. They have managed to make it into just about every major magazine. Perfect balance of chicness and fun. What makes them even better is the delectable colors they come in.

Don't fret. If you can't afford them just whip up a little inspirational concoction like this:

Labor Day Love

Let the beauty you love be what you do.
There are a thousand ways to kneel and kiss the earth.
- Rumi

New hobby? Crocheting tree sleeves?

or duck-taping dead trees?

On Monday I was feeling outdoorsy and decided to hop on over to the Morton Arboretum with my mom and sister. And woah was it nice to experience the great outdoors! You always forget natural beauty until you experience it again. The breezy weather (high 50s) sure was preparing me for the chilly climate of the UK. Among the thousands of acres of trees included elements of art. The gigantic YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL sign was a nice little surprise in an open field. Being in such a serene place really did make me stop a moment and appreciate everything we take for granted in life.

I'm going to miss random day-trips like this.

Iron Lady: Georgia May Jagger as Margaret Thatcher

I was flipping through last month's Harper's BAZAAR and stumbled upon this absolutely golden spread featuring rock royalty and model extraordinaire Georgia May Jagger as former British Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher. Fitting much? Margaret Thatcher is one of THE most influential politicians and is truly inspirational. She was PM for 11 years and had invaluable contributions as a leader of the free world. During her time in office, when she tackled communism head on with President Ronald Reagan she earned the nickname "Iron Lady" which I think is more than fitting.

Being powerful is like being a lady. If you have to tell people you are, you aren't.

“In politics if you want anything said, ask a man. If you want anything done, ask a woman.”

“Please don’t use the word tough. People might get the impression that I don’t care. And I do care very deeply. Resilient, I think.”

“It pays to know the enemy — not least because at some time... you may have the opportunity to turn him into a friend.”
